Case Study

Wooburn Road, Ampthill

The site was the former police station and deemed brownfield allocated for residential housing on the edge of existing local amenities within Ampthill.

The proposal included working with site constraints to prepare an attractive landscape strategy in which a new retirement living complex could be located. This included the provision of 30No retirement units with both internal and external communal spaces, private spaces for ground floor residents, parking facilities for residents, employees, and visitors, mobility scooter storage, large communal garden, and open space for residents and their visitors to enjoy all set beneath existing trees that were retained as part of the site’s redevelopment. This proposal also included space for horticultural therapy with a raised planting bed, shed, potting bench, and propagation unit all designed to provide access to all residents whatever their mobility needs. ACD’s involvement included working alongside the client and design team to ensure consistency and meeting targets (including biodiversity enhancements, budgets, and timescales), securing planning permission for landscape works, overseeing the installation of landscape works, and a post-installation audit.
