In December 2019, Ali Shaw gained her rare reptile licence. ACD Environmental are now pleased to announce that we can carry out rare reptile surveys.

There are six species of native British reptiles. Four of these species are widespread and commonly found across the UK: adder Vipera berus, slow worm Anguis fragilis, common lizard Zootoca vivipara and grass snake Natrix helvetica. In addition to this, there are two ‘rare reptiles’: the sand lizard Lacerta agilis and the smooth snake Coronella austriaca.

Smooth snakes and sand lizards are often found alongside each other, as they both favour sandy heathland habitat.

Like our common species, these rare reptiles are protected by the Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981. The sand lizard and smooth snake also receive legal protection under the Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2010.

If you require professional advice regarding rare reptile surveys, please contact Ali for more information.
