ACD Environmental created the landscape masterplans, detailed landscape proposals and construction details for the new country park at the Minerva Heights development to the west of Chichester. On 22nd April we were invited to the official opening day local residents were welcomed to the park by Miller Homes, a brass band performed and the Mayor of Chichester planted an oak tree and officially opened the park, which is named ‘Platinum Jubilee Country Park’. This happy occasion celebrates the success of the country park which is a large open space which is designed as a SANG (Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace).

The Country Park provides interesting paths over wetlands, with many boardwalks, benches and new tree planting to provide an exciting place for informal recreation. Hedge and native scrub planting, natural meadow grassland and marginal aquatic planting have also been included to provide biodiversity for wildlife.

The design encompassed bollard lighting only at intersections to limit effects on wildlife. The park is suitable for walking and exercising dogs whilst other green spaces of the development will have cycling facilities. Once established it will be a stunning addition to the area, providing local nature walking opportunities and protecting habitats.

ACD originally worked on the SANGs Landscape Strategy document to create an approach that supports wildlife and creates an attractive and welcoming site. With over 2.5km of linking green spaces through the development, it was fantastic to see the design implementation. Local residents and wild birds can enjoy this new recreational park together.
